The adduce is a musical instrument of Arab origin and deeply rooted in folk traditions. It is played essentially by women. It is mostly used in Beira Baixa and accompanies all sorts of chants- whether profane or festive -, dances, songs sung by people working in the fields, festive occasions, etc.
