This fort, conceived for defending Tejo estuary, is still working in the present time as the headquarters of a police force, Guarda Nacional Republicana. From this area one has a beautiful panoramic view over the ancient part of Almada, the quay, Tejo river and Lisbon, lying on the opposite riverbank.
