Housed in the former São Francisco Convent, Angra do Heroísmo Museum portrays the history of the Azores from the discovery and population of the island to present day. The museum describes island’s natural conditions (geology, flora, fauna) and highlights the role played by this archipelago in intercontinental routes. The permanent exhibit presents four main areas: the knowledge of the Azores islands; Angra, Azores and the World; from Port Captain’s Office to Liberalism and the Formation of Contemporary Era. Its heritage includes collections of ceramics, furniture, numismatics, music instruments, painting and ethnography.
