Contacts
Situated by Alva river, at the top of the hill where the village is located, only parts of the wall and a vault-shaped arch of the entrance door remained. S. Miguel Chapel is located in the surroundings. Avô Castle, in Oliveira do Hospital county, was constructed upon a Romanized hill fort, probably under the reign of D. Afonso Henriques. It was rebuilt by D. Dinis, but it would be destroyed during the figths that opposed D. Afonso III and D. Sancho II. In the middle of the 19th century, most part of its stones, namely the keep stones, were reused in specific constructions and in the bridge over Moura stream. From this castle one has a far-reaching view over Avô, a place highly praised for its beauty. (National Trust Building)
