Observations: Sponge Cake is a characteristic sweet in this area. Local artefacts are a highlight here with their blankets, ceramics and tanned wooden clubs.

Description of the place: Situated 17km away from Rio Maior, approximately, this Medieval-like village was given the “foral” (Royal document) under the ruling period of D. Manuel I (1514). It was council’s headquarters until 1834. In the surroundings, there is a vast valley covered by rock salt ponds. The regional museum, located here, is also worth visiting, presenting region’s ethnographic heritage.

Points of interest: Igreja Matriz dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Rosário; the pillory; the former County House and the Calhariz Bridge which is made up of a single arch and was built during the reign of Queen Maria I.
