Barril beach has adapted well to tourism growth throughout the ria Formosa. Former tuna fishing facilities were converted in shops, cafes, terraces, and locker rooms for sunbathers, so that they can enjoy the paradise-like beauty of the surrounding landscape. It can be reached from Pedras d’el Rei tourism village (in Santa Luzia, 3 km west from Tavira) either by a passageway or on board of a tourism mini-train.
