The Basilica is included in the monumental set of Mafra National Palace, the greatest 18th century Portuguese monument. Predominantly classic, the Basilica has one nave decorated with multi-coloured marble, a high barrel vault, and a big Calvary depicting a dove that represents the Holy Spirit. The basilica façade is delimited by two Campaline towers, containing two big carillons made in the studios of Nicolas Levache and Willem Witlockx in Antwerp, weighing 217 tons. Inside the church, you will find six organs built by Joaquim António Peres Fontanes and António Xavier Machado, under the ruling of King Dom João VI (in the beginning of the 19th century).
