The fame of bean cakes from Torres Vedras grew as from the late nineteenth century, when a distinguished lady of the town then began marketing its recipe, which was making the delights of her friends and family, who had the chance to taste it. So many orders were commissioned that, later, her family engaged in the sales of the pastry as a real business, establishing the first manufacturing unit. Others followed suit and in 1940 was establisehd the most recognized brand of bean cakes: the Fábrica da Coroa.
