Beja cathedral is a hall-church with three naves covered by vaults in Manerism, Baroque and eclectic style, created by Jorge Rodrigues. Inside the cathedral, your attention should be drawn to a set of 17th century altars. As you enter Beja cathedral, you will see São Tiago, São Sesinando and Nossa Senhora da Conceição altars; in the Epístola side, you will find Santo António, São José (with André Reinoso paintings) and Santíssimo altars. By request of Dom José do Patrocínio Dias, the Holy See elevated Santiago Maior church to Beja Cathedral, invoking Holy Heart of Jesus. The adaptation works were held from 1932 to 1947, including the main façade, as well as the inclusion of several works of art that used to be in Lisbon’s extinct convents.
