This beautiful well-preserved castle with a view over the Tejo river was erected by D. Afonso Pais in 1194 and rebuilt by D. Nuno Álvares Pereira in 1390. It still preserves the wall curtains, partly covered with remains of battlements. The entrance door dates back to the 15th century with a rounded arch. S. Brás Chapel, located inside the castle, has a worth highlighting Renaissance altarpiece. Please note that if you are travelling from Gavião to the castle, you will find a rather narrow winding road and you will cross the Tejo river through a metallic bridge.
