The origins of this Botanical Garden go as far as 1837, when the school Escola Politécnica was founded, currently Science Faculty. In 1877, the garden had over 10 thousand plants, becoming one of Europe’s most famous gardens. It has a special character, as well as scientific interest, revealed in the boards of the plants’ names describing their families and geographical origins. However, visiting it is also a true pleasure to the senses. It has over 20 thousand plants and bushes from several parts of the world within a 4ha location, situated in the street Rua da Escola Politécnica, not very far away from Avenida da Liberdade and Marquês de Pombal roundabout.
