The council of Chamusca, located at the heart of the Ribatejo fields on the left margin of Tagus river, is placed in highly fertile lands, ideal for bull and horse breeding. In fact, rural bullfighting tradition is one of town’s main symbols, which can be seen in the monumental bullfighting arena or in several festivities, such as “Semana da Ascenção” or “Festa Brava”. Local wine, gastronomy and handicraft are also famous. Handicraft products can be observed or bought in the Regional Handicraft Centre, situated in the centre of Chamusca, from ceramics to wooden and cork works. You should explore Chamusca on foot, for here you will find well-preserved buildings of ancient times, such as São Brás Main Church and beautiful examples of art nouveau and revival constructions, namely the striking Clube Agrícola (Agricultural Club). From the top of the hills Senhora do Pranto and Senhor do Bonfim, you will enjoy breathtaking views over the region. Arrepiado viewpoint invites you to contemplate slowly flowing Tagus River and Almoroul Castle in the distance.
