Watch Museum opened in April 1995, in the former Mosteirinho Convent, a Manueline building, in Serpa. The museum’s collection was assembled by António Tavares d’Almeida, covering nowadays over 1600 watches. It all began in 1972, when his grandparents offered him three broken pocket-watches. A permanent exhibit called “400 years of watchmaking in Portugal” is held in the museum. The exhibited pieces date back to 1600. It is the only of its sort in the Iberian Peninsula.
