Cuba is the headquarters of a council that includes four civil parishes, next to the left riverbank of one of the tributary rivers of Odivelas river stream. It earned the town title and became a council in 1782. Some vestiges of Megalithic culture of the ancient council’s inhabitants can still be seen today, namely two dolmens in the surrounding area of Vila Alva. In the Sacred Art and Archaeology Museum, you will find several objects that were found in excavations carried out throughout the council. Its towns and villages preserve a traditional architecture, which can be contemplated in the characteristic one-storey whitewashed houses with their typical colourful stripes. The main highlights of the architectural heritage are the Roman bridge and the main church in Vila Ruiva. Vila Alva is one of the council’s most typical villages. It is an ancient village that has kept interesting churches and chapels, as for instance 18th century Nossa Senhora da Visitação Church, preserving a truly enchanting flair with its narrow streets adorned with white houses.
