Dão Wine Route

With official recognition since the beginning of the twentieth century, this wine region of granitic soils, is currently one of the most famous of the country, especially for its red wines. Incidentally, it was Dão, in the village of Tourigo, the place of origin of a variety that many consider to be queen of Portuguese grape varieties: Touriga Nacional. The Dão Wine Route takes the visitor through a region of vineyards, lush vegetation, fresh air and clear waters of numerous rivers. The first itinerary features the health resorts, with the unique properties of their hot springs, influenced by particular geological characteristics. Health is again the motto for another itinerary, as the winemaking tradition has found new paths and the wine is used as the basis for dermatologic treatments and relaxation. The beauty and diversity of landscapes also invite those looking for an active contact with nature. There is a wide range of modalities that take advantage of the unique conditions offered by mountains and rivers. The third suggestion includes action sports, ranging from rock climbing to off-roading. The tour includes strolls, however another itinerary is entirely devoted to golf and horse riding. Finally, the last itinerary of the Dao Wine Route unveils the alliance between natural products and the rich local gastronomy, where strong flavors are seasoned with refined aromatic herbs, offering a diversified menu, which is a major attraction in the region.
