Although there are historical references to the place of Porcimun, during the reconquest of the Algarve from the Moors, it was only during the seventeenth century that Portimão had a great development.
This first designation covers the county, in the Algarve coastal zone, being bounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Serra de Monchique. With a Mediterranean climate, Portimão produces quality wines with the typical features of a very hot region. The varieties to be used in its preparation are the white Syria and the red Negra Mole and Periquita.
