This temple, founded in the 14th century, presents a quite elegant design, the result of a reform carried out on the second half of the 16th century. It has three naves, classical columns and elegant austerely drawn portals in Mannerism style. The main and the lateral altars are in gilt carved wood. The central one has a Pentecost painting. The quality of the tiles, especially the ones of the main chapel depicting Old Testament scenes, is worth highlighting. The tiles of the body of the church represent the life of the Virgin. The triumphal arch has a dove on top representing the Divine Holy Spirit, patron saint of the Church and of the city Montijo. The image of Saint Peter, patron saint of the fishermen’s community of Montijo, can be found in this church.
