The feast in honor of Our Lady of Mercy is held in the parish of Caniçal, despite the fact that this is not the local patron. This festival is attended by many people, most of them fulfilling promises made to the Virgin Mary. The day before the celebrations, on Saturday, the procession goes by sea from the Chapel of Our Lady of Mercy, taking the image of Our Lady of Marcy to the Parish Church. Here a Mass will be prayed. On Sunday, the liturgy honoring Our Lady of Mercy will be followed by the procession by sea, which will take the image of Our Lady back to the Chapel.
