In the largest religious festival on the island of Pico, hundreds of devotees pay their pledges to the Good Lord Jesus going on pilgrimage to the Chapel of St. Matthew where they venerate the image of the saint for three days. Races are organized in parallel with whaling boats and there are local philharmonic concerts.
