With origins dating back to the nineteenth century, the "Poveira" sweater is an integral part of the festival of the "Poveira" fisherman. Various motifs related to the life of fishermen, such as boats, anchors, fish, shells, stars, or oars crossed, among others are embroidered in cross stitch (black and red) on white wool. The recovery of this garment was made through the "Poveiro" Folkloric Group, founded in 1936 by Santos Graça.
