Francisco Tavares Proença Júnior Museum is set in the former Bishop’s House, founded in the beginning of the 19th century by the major sponsor of Beira region archaeology, Francisco Tavares Proença Júnior. The museum’s collection assembles archaeological findings from the Palleolitic to the Middle Ages, 16th century Portuguese school painting, tapestry, furniture of the former Bishop’s House, arms, ethnography, 16th and 18th century sacred art and Castelo Branco bedspreads that belonged to the Vilhena collection. There is a bedspread manufacturing school that produces lavishly ornamented bedspreads, sold to the public.
