During the Holy Week, the city of Braga receives thousands of pilgrims from all over the country and Galicia. This ritual consists of a series of night processions, characterised by a highly dramatic intensity. On Maundy Thursday, Endoenças Procession takes place, also known among locals as “Senhor da Cana Verde” (literally, “The Green Cane Lord”). The procession departs from the cathedral through the main streets of the city, coming back to the cathedral. Pilgrims walk behind the image of Christ crowned by thorns, holding a sceptre depicted in a green cane. On Good Friday, the great highlight goes to the Burial Procession of Our Lord. This is quite an impressive feast with brethrens, fellow members of Misericórdia and Santa Cruz with their cowls on and rods in their hands, canon priests dragging their mantles and rods through the floor and children dressed like angels dragging the crosses. The sound of the vests and the rods being dragged through the floor stops when a voice rises upon the crowd singing: "A el libitum Lamentabile"; Heu Heu Domine Heu Salvator". The procession ends in the Cathedral.
