This honey is exclusively produced from the flower nectars of spontaneous flora, mainly ericaceous and chestnut trees. This ancient honey plays a very important role in the region, which can be seen in the names of nearby villages: Colmeal (meaning the place where many beehives can be found), Cortiços (cork cylinder inside which bees produce honey), Vale de Cortiços, Vale de Abelhas (literally meaning “bee valley”).
