José Régio House Museum

José Régio Museum House is set in the former writer’s home, who spent here part of his life. He wrote here some of his major literary works. This Museum House comprises sacred art and popular art pieces. The author of Toada de Portalegre played a major role in collecting and preserving several testimonies of popular culture of Alentejo region. In his former house - "I’ve lived in an old house/ an old, big and beautiful country house/ the perfect place for me to live in” - one can still feel the environment in which he lived. He spent most of his lifetime in Portalegre. The bedroom and the office remain untouched as he left them. Among many precious things that one can find in this Museum House, the 400 crucified Christ sculptures that the poet collected throughout his life are definitely worth mentioning, revealing his deeply strong faith.
