This museum opened its doors in March 1996, assembling the writer’s library, his personal heritage and local ethnography. It is set in a typical building of Ovar architecture, where the writer lived during the Summer of 1863. The first signs of tuberculosis appeared by this time. Júlio Dinis may have written here most part of his most famous work: “As Pupilas do Senhor Reitor”. In a letter to Custódio Passos Dinis, the writer described the stay in Ovar in this way: “The pleasure I enjoy in this life I lead in Ovar may be compared to a tepid bath: it pleases me while it puts me to sleep.”
