Despite not being as high as the castle, Leiria cathedral rises upon the houses of the historical centre, since it is located in a hill. It dates back to the 16th century, presenting both the uprightness of Gothic cathedrals and the sense of proportion typical of Renaissance and classic styles. It has the peculiarity of lacking a clock tower.
