MORE INFORMATION

Description of the place: Known nowadays as the paragliding capital, Linhares da Beira is an ancient Medieval town, which has been inhabited since the Roman period. Testimonies of that era are still to be seen, such as several tombs, a part of the Roman path and part of a building called today Fórum de Linhares. Its castle, a National Monument rebuilt in 1291 under the ruling period of King D. Dinis, has played an important role in the defence of Beira Alta region during the early years of Portuguese nationality. From this spot, you will have a view over a great deal of the remaining historical heritage of this region: Romanic style main church containing three paintings of Portuguese Master Grão Vasco; the Manueline pillory; Town Hall with the Royal weapons; Corte Real manor house, an 18th century Baroque construction and Brandão de Melo manor house, a 19th century Neoclassical building.
