The least you can expect from the visit to Europe’s biggest Oceanarium is a true adventure in the sea world. It has over 16.000 animals and over 450 plant species, integrated in natural ecosystems, providing a uniquely beautiful experience. Lisbon Oceanarium is a work of North-American architect Peter Chermayeff. It was the Oceans’ Pavilion during Expo’98, built to evoke the message of this World Exhibition: “The Oceans, a Heritage for the Future”. It has a giant central aquarium with elements that represent high sea fauna, from sardine shoals to sharks among hundreds of species representing four different habitats: Pacific, Antartic, North Atlantic and Tropical Indic. The Oceanarium has four additional smaller aquariums that evoke the five continents. Here we can feel the scents, observe several species and come closer to different realities.
