MIRANDA DO CORVO
Miranda do Corvo is located in the meeting point of rivers Alheda and Dueça, surrounded by lavish green mountains. The strategic importance of Miranda was in times influenced by a Medieval castle. A bell tower, located in Calvário mount, is all that has remained of it. 16th century Senhora da Piedade de Tábuas chapel, located in Vila Nova, is a place of deep religious devotion, containing a set of 18th century ex-votos in oil painting. In the surrounding area, there is Tábuas river beach, which is quite pleasant in Summer. Santa Maria Monastery, situated in Semide, was founded in the 12th century by Benedict Order, and has maintained some interesting elements. In Lousã mountain range, we will find one of the council’s pearls: Gondramaz schist village, beautifully set in the mountain. This village is known for the famous religious stone sculptures. During the month of August, a very sought-after procession takes place in Senhor da Serra Sanctuary.
