This one-arch Medieval Roman bridge is located in Ruivães. It crosses Rabagão river near the meeting point with Cávado river in the middle of an imposing scenery of stones and torrents. Rebuilt in the 19th century, this was the stage of a fight opposing French troops of Soult that were withdrawing from Porto by the end of the 2nd French Invasion and local militians who were trying to stop them in April 1809. The magical surrounding environment created several legends. One of the legends has it that this bridge was a devil’s work, however a friar won it back to the people by defeating the devil and putting an end to the curse. It also related to ancient fertility rites. The view is unmissable.
