These dolls are called "Marafonas". They are made from a cross covered with colourful dress. The "Maranon's" have no mouth or eyes and are associated with the fertility cult. They should be placed under the bed of newlyweds (as they have no eyes or mouth, they cannot see or tell). They are also used by the women from Monsanto in the Cross Festival in May. These traditional dolls are made in Penha Garcia and Alcafozes, localities in Idanha-a-Nova
