These lambs of Merino Branco Regional breed weigh between 9 and 12 kg and are slaughtered from 90 to 120 days-old. They are also bred in a traditional way, so that this highly prized meat can be classified. They obtain the nourishment from spontaneous pasture. In Winter, they get additional nourishment from acorns. The origin of this breed is prior to country’s foundation. Sheep production has always played a crucial role in Alentejo region.
