The town of Ermelo has a microclimate that has enabled the production of oranges, for many centuries. It is said that around the thirteenth century, the Cistercian monks settled there and, with their agronomic expertise, introduced the orange crop. These oranges are characterized by having a medium size, with a very thin rind, very sweet, without fiber or seeds. The harvest of oranges from Ermelo begins in February, and have the best season in April and May.
