Designed by Spanish champion Severiano Ballesteros, it was opened on 1 October 2004. It is the largest golf course in the archipelago as part of a landscape of great natural beauty, with magnificent views to the south and north coasts of the island. With fair conditions for the sport throughout the year, it consists of two loops of nine holes each with a par 72, nine with par 3, "Pitch and Putt".
The Club House of the complex, located in a welcoming, beautiful building with balconies overlooking the lawns, offers two restaurants and is equipped with showers, jacuzzi, sauna and Turkish bath.
Porto Santo Golf Course was the host for the first time in 2009 of the Madeira Island Open Golf, one of the largest and most important sporting events in the archipelago, as part of the PGA European Tour.
