It is the most popular feast of the city of Castelo Branco. It is held on the second Sunday after Easter, lasting until the following Tuesday, which is the municipal holiday. The procession takes place next to the chapel of Nossa Senhora de Mércoles, situated in one of the city entries. The city began to celebrate this feast in the past as thanksgiving for being freed from the plague and other epidemics. This cult goes as far as the 16th century.
