Situated in the park attached to Quinta das Cruzes Museum, the Garden Quinta das Cruzes has a wide range of endemic and exotic plants. Apart from the main house, you will find here the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, the archaeological garden, an orchid plantation and several species of camphor trees, palm trees, Australian eucalyptus, among many others. You can also marvel at archaeological sculptures, especially the gravestone that covered the deadly remains of Knight Henrique Alemão, according to the legend. In the centre of the garden, you can contemplate two beautiful Manueline windows in basalt carved stone dating back to the 16th century. This was allegedly the last residence of Madeira’s discoverer, João Gonçalves Zarco.
