This region's ceramics dates back many years. There are references to it that go back as far as the 12th century and there are vestiges of the Celtic culture. The most characteristic items are those made of red clay with transparent glass and decorated in shades of yellow, green and brown. As of 1189 there is reference to potters and oven owners from "Olla's" and to the roof tiles in the Vila of "Mafara". We can find this type of ceramics at the Luz (Lisbon), Mercês, Malveira and Sintra markets.
