Torre de Palma is situated near the road that leads from Monforte to Alter do Chão. In the Roman period, it was located next to the road that connected Olisipo (Lisbon), and Scallabis (Santarém) to Ebora Liberalitas Julia, (Évora), with Albelterium (Alter do Chão) along the way. This villa was occupied from the 1st century AD to the Visigoth era. It was found in 1947, when a plough hit a capital, unveiling a mosaic of little stones. In this 50 cm deep place, archaeologists found a character-depicting pavement of coloured stones (“the muse mosaic”). You should focus your attention on the horse mosaic, the muse mosaic and an inscription dedicated to Mars.
