Several vestiges have remained from this 18th century building, in spite of the destruction caused by the 1755 earthquake and the following reconstruction that inverted temple’s orientation. This church has kept an outstanding reliquary of the Cross of Christ, a piece that, according to tradition, was offered by Byzantine Princess D. Vataça. You should also draw a closer look to the Gothic 14th century bass relief, which was offered by Holy Queen Isabel to D. Vatácia, depicting a Knight of the Order of Santiago fighting against the Moors.
