Along with São Roque Church (In Lisbon) and São Francisco Church (in Porto), it is the most important example of Portuguese Baroque decoration in terms of tiling and gilt carved wood. Built in 1707, its discrete façades contrast with a lavish interior decoration, assembling one of the county’s best sets of gilt carved wood that cover the walls around multi-coloured figures. It has a wooden ceiling that imitates cradle vault with perspective painting representing wall continuity. Lagos Regional Museum is housed in the attached buildings.
