This is the main monument of Portalegre ciry not only for its dimension and for filling, but also for its conservation state. Firstly a Cister Order convent, it suffered many changes during the 17th and 18th centuries. Worth highlighting is the sumptuous Renaissance gravestone sculpture, erected by D. Jorge de Melo, Guarda Bishop who lived here his last days. Some of the sculptures may evoke the love of D. Jorge to Santa Clara Convent Abess, Branca de Vasconcelos.
