This small fortress by the sea next to Caxias beach began to be built in 1647. It integrated a set of fortresses that protected the coast between Belém Tower and Cape Roca. The former Convent Laveiras dos Frades Cartuxos de S. Bruno, located in the surrounding area, gave name to this fortress. This military fort stands out as one of the most precious fortifications of the Portuguese coast, built immediately after the Restoration. It was recently restored.
