This church dates back to the 12th century, and it has kept the only significant vestiges of Romanic architecture in Santarém, namely thick walls, outdoor buttresses and capitals decorated with plant-related and animal-shaped motifs. However, its vertical lines and the covering system clearly reveal a Gothic influence. In the 18th century, its Romanic tower had to be destroyed, so that the carriage of Queen D. Maria I could pass through. Nowadays, this church houses Santarém Municipal Museum, assembling a collection of archaeology and Medieval arts.
