This church was founded in the 13th century, supposedly by fishermen. It underwent several reconstruction works throughout time, but nothing has remained from the former church. Under Manueline ruling, this church was enlarged by João de Castilho. From that period, only the portals have lingered. Damaged by earthquakes, the church has preserved the main chapel in gilt carved wood, the tiling, as well as big windows and the front ending, following the reform carried out by Marquis de Pombal.
