Built in a high location behind the municipal market, this large white church can be seen from almost every spot of the city of Lagos. In 1490, D. João II ordered the construction of this church in the place of a former Medieval eremite. It would be rebuilt after 1755 earthquake. In the interior, you will find the bone chapel and the Renaissance portal with unusual plant-related and animal-shaped motifs.
