Description of view: Under the ruling of D. Afonso III, the walls of Beja Castle were rebuilt. The keep was erected during the reign of his son D. Dinis. This 40 m high keep has almost two hundred stairs. Climbing them is a true challenge, but it is really rewarding, in order to admire a masterpiece of Gothic architecture as well as to contemplate the endless plains of Alentejo region. In clear days it is possible to observe Serpa Castle, golden green wheat fields and Guadiana river.
